Sebastian Ingrosso has held a career that truly mirrors his excitable and animated personality. From Coachella to Madison Square Garden, the Grammy-nominated DJ/producer has taken electronic music places people thought to be impossible, keeping musical expansion and the nurturing of the genre’s next leaps and bounds on the table at all times.
With more than a decade spent crafting landmark movements for the electronic music world, his is a legacy felt from the club floor through to the festival main stages, from the Billboard charts and beyond. But you won’t find Ingrosso resting his laurels on chart success or popularity just yet. 2016 is a year of creative absolution for the iconic Swedish artist. I’ve never been this excited to be making music,’ he explains. ‘Right now it feels like there are no boundaries and I am ready to show fans a new side to my capability. There is more out there than just four to the floor, but that doesn’t mean you have to completely turn your back on it.’
Renowned for his discography of versatile solo work and high calibre collaborative stints, hits as varied as ‘Kidsos,’ ‘Calling (Lose My Mind),’ and ‘Reload’ have seen Ingrosso influence electronic music’s footsteps towards popularity in a huge way, all whilst keeping a steady hand on the sound of the modern dance floor. Remixes for acts as diverse as Robyn, Miike Snow, Justin Timberlake and Miike Snow have added to an impressive discography of original and guest productions.
Alongside long-time friend and production partner Axwell, his part in Swedish powerhouse Axwell Λ Ingrosso has kept his presence within electronic music aligned with some truly remarkable live and recorded landmarks. From a spot on the Monsters University soundtrack to their first formal collaborative show at Governors Ball in 2014, the continuation of their united musical efforts continues to garner a firm run of achievements, scaling Billboard chart success, headline action at Coachella and creative collaborations with H&M and Beats along the way.
But among these headline achievements, Refune Music remains a passion project of the highest calibre from Ingrosso and his long serving team. An artist imprint turned diverse musical hub, their ability to foster talent has seen them champion artists across the musical spectrum whilst keeping a firm reputation for unearthing new and exciting talent. ‘We don’t want there to be any boundaries to what we do there,’ explains Ingrosso. ‘If I hear something and I get that feeling in my gut, then that’s enough.’
At the outset of 2016, the balance of solo and collaborative stamina the world anticipating one of Ingrosso’s biggest years to date. Landing off a definitive year of activity for Axwell Λ Ingrosso, marker single ‘FLAGS!’ alongside label mates LIOHN and Salvatore Ganacci set the tone for a very different side to the Swedish heavyweight’s studio output. With whisper of more solo point and some definitive moments ahead for Axwell Λ Ingrosso, all signs point to a liberating streak for Sebastian and his rightly earned creative freedom. ‘My ideal is that if fans like Ingrosso then they just like music, whatever the style or genre,’ he explains. ‘I don’t need a gate around my creativity anymore.’ Be it a stadium, a festival or a sighting from his precious studio sessions, you’re unlikely to catch Ingrosso without a smile on his face where his labour of love is concerned.
